Industrial Pillar Drills
A pillar drill (also known as a drill press, column drill, or pedestal drill) has a fixed drill head supported above a vertical column, with height of the workpiece adjustable by raising or lowering the table.
The rotating drill bit which is held in a chuck, or directly in a Morse taper (for large diameters), is pressed down onto the workpiece either manually or automatically.
There are various ways of adjusting drill bit rotation speed. The most common, simpliest method is by moving a drive belt on stepped pulleys. Heavier duty industrial pillar drills have a gearbox providing a range of fixed speeds. A popular option is a variable speed drive which can be electronically controlled, using either an inverter motor or a variable pulley belt drive.
Industrial pillar drills are also available with tapping function, reverse rotation, auto feed, coolant pump etc.
